Abstract

601,680. Lawn-mowers. GREEN & SON, Ltd., T., and MYERS, J. F. March 21, 1945, Nos. 7186 and 30664. [Class 6 (ii)] A mowing-machine has a main frame with a rotary cutting cylinder C supported at its ends in bearings, in which the housings 2 for the bearings are secured to cantilever springs 3 anchored to the frame of the mower and tending normally to lift the housings, and adjustable means 7 is provided and adapted to operate against the action of the springs to hold the cutting cylinder in cutting relation to the fixed blade. In the construction shown of a rollerdriven mower a sub-frame 11 is provided and detachably carried by the main frame, and consists of a one-piece casting having a sole plate 13 and a deflector plate 14, said sole plate providing the mounting for the cantilever springs 3, whilst the deflector plate has lugs provided with holes for the adjusting screws 7. Locating and fixing studs 19 hold the sub-frame between the side plates A of the main frame which has slots 20 to accommodate the ends of the spindle 21 of the cutting cylinder. In Fig. 1 (not shown) a side-wheel-driven mower having no sub-frame is shown.
