Abstract

601,382. Automatic firearms. REISING, E. G. Nov. 15, 1944, No. 22607. [Class 119] The firing pin 54 is rectangular in cross-section at its forward end and has a striking face 62 slightly inclined to the front face of the bolt 18, for example at 3 degrees. The front face of the bolt is recessed to accommodate the cartridge rim, and the striking face of the firing pin enters this recess but an enlarged head 60 on the firing pin prevents it from projecting beyond the front face of the bolt. The pin may be chamfered as at 94<SP>1</SP>. The bolt 18, not positively locked, has a transverse slot 74 to co-operate with a flange 72 on the action bar which transmits the thrust of the return spring 78. The action bar is of box form and has a finger-piece 76, Fig. 1A, at its forward end ; it is guided by flat faces on the studs 82, 84, and by the plate 93 which carries the magazine holder 89. The studs may be used for attaching the stock. The firing mechanism is carried by a housing 29 dovetailed on to the receiver and having flanges 39 to form a stop for the trigger in its forward position. The trigger is pivoted to the housing at 38 and to it is pivoted the trigger bar 32 at 34 so that when the trigger is pulled the tooth 36 on the trigger bar pulls the sear 26 out of engagement with the hammer 16. When the bolt recoils the bottom of the flange 72 bearing on the surface 44 cams the trigger bar out of engagement with the sear and allows the latter to re-engage with the hammer.
