Abstract

600,773. Electron discharge apparatus. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 22, 1945, No. 12764. Convention date, May 11, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] In a semi-demountable electron discharge device, the cylindrical header of an electrode mount assembly fits into a metal cylinder defining an opening of the envelope, and abuts against an alignment stop secured to the interior surface of the cylinder, the header and the cylinder being sealed together at their outer edges only. The header is removed by cutting off the sealed edge portion. As shown in Fig. 1, the envelope consists of a metal spinning 17 brazed to a hollow copper anode 15 and sealed to a glass cylinder 21. A metal cylinder 22 sealed at one end to (the glass, is seam-welded at the other end to a steel sleeve 24, to whose interior is secured an alignment ring 26. An electrode mount comprises a lead assembly and a header 29 fitting the sleeve 24 and abutting against the ring 26. The header has a transverse wall portion 31 formed with apertures to receive the electrode leads, which are supported by metal thimbles 38 in turn supported by glass cylinders 37 and eyelets 34. The header 29 is seam welded to the sleeve 24 at 53. The metal members 17, 22, 34, 38 are preferably formed of a nickel-cobalt-iron alloy. The header also carries a metal, preferably iron, exhaust tube 42.
