Abstract
600,344. Mechanical switches ; switch covers. BROOKHIRST SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., and CHALMERS, W. R. Nov. 24, 1945, Nos. 31725/45 and 18660/46. [Class 38 (v)] - The insulating housings 10, 12 of the co-operating contacts of a switch are designed to afford a very small separation in the vicinity of the contacts. Pairs of roller contacts 19 bridge fixed contacts 15 or 16 and are carried in slots in the barrel 12 which is rotated by a spindle 13. The rollers may be grooved and connected by a flexible conductor 23 so that springs 26 on forks 25 provide individual contact pressure. Two pairs of rollers may bridge each pair of fixed contacts, Fig. 9 (not shown). Preferably, the fixed contacts protrude slightly within the housing 10 and outward movement of the rollers is limited to prevent them from touching the housing 10. Spring-controlled plunger or pivoted contacts may replace the roller contacts. A number of these switches may be incorporated in a fuse-switch, Fig. 8, fixed contacts being connected to both terminals of each fuse 36 to enable the fuses to be completely isolated by the switches. The cover 35 of the fuse-switch is interlocked by an arm 33 secured to the operating spindle 30.
