Abstract

767,112. Snap-action switches; switch cases. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 16, 1954 [Dec. 16, 1953], No. 34969/53. Class 38(5) A switch and fuse assembly has the switch contacts and the fuses arranged in respective superposed layers parallel to a base member and spaced therefrom so as to provide a cable space adjacent the base member. The fixed contacts 14 are supported by members 17 carried by clamps 28 secured to bridge members 20. The latter are shown as being secured by members 21 to lugs 23 on the ends 12 of the housing 10, but may be spaced from the base by distance pieces or may be supported at one end only. The contacts 14 are arranged to be bridged by contacts 15 loosely carried by an operating bar 32 which is guided by pins 35, 36. Further bridge members 46 are carried by supports 55 detachably mounted in sockets 56 and the fuses 52 are attached to clamps 51 on members 46. One member 17 of each pair is connected to a cable 31, the other being connected to one end of the appropriate fuse by a strap 69, the other cable 59 being connected to the other end of the fuse. The contacts 14 are preferably slightly staggered so that one end of the contact 15 makes first and breaks last, the loose mounting of the contact 15 on the bar 32 permitting this. One end of the bar 32 is connected by a link 60 to a snapaction mechanism comprising springs 65 and a lever 64 which is operated by an external handle by the engagement of lugs 67, carried by the handle, with a lug 68 on lever 64. The lugs 67 may be arranged to move below a projection on the end wall of the housing so as to prevent removal of the cover when the switch is closed.
