Abstract

A substance said to possess insecticidal properties is produced by mixing an hydrocarbon other than benzene with chloral in the absence of concentrated sulphuric acid. In one example, naphthalene is dissolved in anhydrous chloral by gentle heating. Water is added to the mass kept at 120-140 DEG F. and the substance crystallised by cooling. In another, anhydrous chloral is added to rubber latex until the latter has dissolved, the temperature being kept below 140 DEG F.ALSO:An indiarubber composition said to possess insecticidal properties is produced by adding anhydrous chloral to rubber latex until all the rubber has dissolved, the temperature being controlled below 140 degrees F.ALSO:Insecticides are produced by mixing hydrocarbons other than benzene with chloral in the absence of conc. sulphuric acid. In one example, naphthalene is dissolved in anhydrous chloral by gentle heating and water is added to the mass which is kept at 120-140 degrees F. and then cooled. In another, anhydrous chloral is added to rubber latex until all the rubber has dissolved, the temperature being controlled below 140 degrees F. Solutions in organic solvents provide sprays and means for distributing the insecticides throughout neutral solid powders in the formation of dusts.
