Abstract
Benzene is treated with chlorine under the influence of light, the a and b hexachloride isomers being separated by cooling and crystallising outside the reaction vessel, and one filtrate, which contains a and other isomers, plus any washing liquid, is returned to the reaction vessel for further chlorination. The final solution is evaporated to give a solid rich in the a isomer, with melting point of about 70 DEG C., which may be used by itself or admixed with other materials as an insecticide.
