[Class 4] A damping device applicable to an aircraft undercarriage comprises an elastic member set in tension by an inclined lever made to turn by the ground reaction to the vertical movement of the craft when landing so that the moment arm of the force applied to the elastic member increases with the angle of movement. An inclined arm 6 carrying a shoe 8 with a friction surface 9 sliding along a skid 2 produces torsion, under the ground pressure on the skid during landing, in a rubber annulus 4 connected between the lever pivot ring 5 and the aircraft body 1, The arrangement is such that the moment arm of the applied force increases with the angular movement imposed on the rubber annulus. Modifications in the arrangements of the arms and in the elastic members acted upon are described ; in one example, a spring acted upon by a bellcrank lever is employed.
