610,872. Checking picking sticks. SOC ANON. A. SAURER. April 17, 1946, No. 11804. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1945. [Class 142(iii)] A picking stick 7 is checked by a buffer 33 carried by a strap 32 which passes round a drum 22 and is attached to an arm 26 loaded by a torsion spring 29; friction between the strap and the drum augments the resistance of the strap to deflection, but opposes the spring force when the strap straightens to prevent rebound of the stick.
