Abstract

597,605. Machinery guards. BROWN, B. Aug. 23, 1945, No. 21603. [Class 80(iv)] A machinery guard for power presses comprises a guard 1 mounted on levers 2, 3 connected through links 9-14 to the press clutch operating lever 15, the guard being held normally inoperative by counterweights 7. Link 10 is pivotally anchored at its lower end to a stop member 11, slidably mounted in a bracket 12, which carries a slidable pin 13 projecting from a block 14 mounted in the bracket 12. Normally the pin 13 abuts the stop member 11, but on lowering the guard, the member 11 rises and a hole 16 therein is engaged thereby, the guard being locked in this position by a pivoted catch 22. In this position the lever 15 may be moved to engage the clutch. An additional guard 17 at the opposite side of the press plates 18, 19 is adapted to lock the clutch control means when the guard is displaced, by means of a trip pin 21 engaging the pivoted catch 22. Additional guards similar to guard 1 may be actuated by the same locking device by having a plurality of pins 13 engaging holes 16 in stop members 11.
