[Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A two-terminal antiresonant circuit presents an effective resistance at resonance ("dynamic resistance") which can be varied over a wide range and is approximately independent of frequency. The inductive element L, Fig. 2, and capacitive elements C1, C2 are bridged by a resistance R, which may have an inductance S in series with it to reduce the effect of changes of frequency. The condenser C2 is varied to vary the dynamic resistance across the terminals 1, 2, which is a maximum when the arms of the bridge are conjugate. Preferably, however, the tapping on the inductance L is replaced by an equivalent mutual inductance M, Fig. 8. A trimming condenser T is added to adjust the calibration, and stray capacity across the terminals 1, 2 may be taken into account. For measuring the dynamic resistance of quartz crystals and the like by the substitution method, the circuit may be used in combination with an oscillator, such as that described in Specification 597,439 whose output does not vary substantially with changes of frequency.
