Abstract
597,314. Slab walls. NUTTALL, G. R. F. Aug. 14, 1945, No. 20873. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] A wall for a dwelling house or other building construction comprising a series of panels 1 assembled in a row with the vertical side edges 2 and 3 of adjacent panels side by side, has the panels connected together by rods 9 located in aligned horizontal passages 6 in the panels, a separate rod being provided in each horizontal passage, and the adjacent screw-threaded ends of the rods being coupled by a nut or screwthreaded sleeve 10 adapted to abut a shoulder 3 on the vertical edge of a panel whereby the panels are drawn into abutting relation. Rows of panels are secured between corner posts or the like (not shown) by anchoring the outer ends of the rods of the end panels to the posts as by nuts screwing onto the rods. As shown, the panels, which may be of metal, wood, reinforced wood, concrete or any suitable material, are provided with channelled metal edge plates 2, 3, 4, 5. Metal tubes 6 are embedded in the body of the panel and provide transverse passages between the vertical end plates 2 and 3, and are secured to the plates so that apertures 7 and 8 in the plates 3, Figs. 2 and 3, register with the tubes, whereby the plate 3, Fig. 4, provides a shoulder for abutment by the nut 10, the apertures 7 in the plate 2 being sufficiently large to house the nut 10.
