Abstract
583,101. Portable shelters and cloches. EDWARDS, G. J. S. June 12, 1944, No. 11189. [Class 20 (i)] A frame unit for a portable shelter or cloche of tent or barn shape comprises two or more longitudinally slotted bars pivotally connected and clamped in the required angular relationship by means such as a nut and bolt passed through the slots of adjacent bars, the slots in the bars locating and retaining panels forming the sides of the shelter. The Figure shows a tent cloche according to the invention comprising a pair of frame units each formed of two slotted bars 1, 2 clamped by a nut and bolt 3, 4 and a number of glass panels 5, 6 located in the slots 1a 2a of the bars. As shown a number of glass sheets are shown held in overlapping relationship by S-clips 7 but they may be secured by wedges or the sides of the cloche may be of single sheets. A three sided or barn cloche can be made by using more slotted bars and clamps to build up the required shaped section at each end. Three or more bars may be held together by one clamp where for example two adjacent cloches have a common wall. In a modification a single rod having screwed end portions may replace the bolts of two spaced apart units, the rod determining the spacing and also serving as lifting means.
