Abstract

597,198. Valve amplifying circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ESPLEY, D. C. Aug. 13, 1945, No. 20754. [Class 40 (v)] In a broad band amplifier, distortion due to the broadening of an input pulse, together with the ringing effect on the trailing edge, is reduced by the use of a large number of amplifying stages having a band-width substantially greater than that of the signal to be transmitted and a small number of stages having a band width equal to that of the signal. One or more of the narrow band width stages may be connected to the output terminals of the amplifier. The bands passed by the stages may extend from zero to a cut-off frequency or the signal may be heterodyned before application to the amplifier and demodulated at the receiving end.
