Abstract

596,963. Grinders for textile machinery. DRONSFIELD, S. W., and DRONSFIELD BROS., Ltd. Aug. 8, 1945, No. 20259. [Class 60] A grinder for textile carding engines comprises a unit detachable, as such, from the carding engine and including an electric motor and shaft driven thereby for driving the grinding-wheel, the motor frame having a step or extension, which by co-operation with a fixed member takes up driving torque. The unit, which has handles 11, 12 to lift it from open bearings 13, 14 in the machine and has a step lug 16 on the motor frame engaging the bearing 13 to take up torque, comprises a grinding-wheel 1 for grinding the teeth 2 of a textile doffer, or cylinder and flats 3, driven by a shaft 4 of an electric motor 5. The grinding- wheel has a pin engagement 6 with a double helical groove 7 in a shaft 8, coaxial with the driving shaft and driven through epicyclic gearing 10 from a sleeve 9 supporting the grinding-wheel, so that the grinding-wheel is traversed as well as rotated.
