Abstract

In an electric condenser constructed by progressively building up alternate layers of powdered metallic silver and powdered vitreous dielectric material, and subjecting the assembly to a firing process to fuse it into a unitary structure, the powdered silver and dielectric material are applied in liquid vehicles comprising respectively: hydrogenated rosin (14.5 per cent), ethyl cellulose (1.5 per cent), pine oil (84.0 per cent) and turpentine (72 per cent), hydrogenated rosin (12 per cent), methyl abietate (14 per cent), diethyl oxalate (2 per cent). Between the lowest dielectric layer and a base-plate is a separation layer of ethyl cellulose in methyl alcohol. Sealing layers comprising a solution of ethyl cellulose (4 per cent) and a dye sold under the Registered Trade Mark of "Rhodamine B.XQ1" (0.003 per cent) in methyl alcohol are applied to each electrode, or nitrocellulose or methyl cellulose in suitable solvents may be used. Specification 596,792, [Group XXIII], is referred to.ALSO:The non-adhesion layer which is situated between the metal base and lowermost di-electric layer of an electric condenser comprising alternate layers of vitreous di-electric material and metallic silver electrodes applied successively as powders and fired to form a unitary structure, consists of a mixture of bentonite (precalcined at 800 DEG C.) 10 per cent., dextrin 4 per cent., and water, 86 per cent. Calcined alumina or calcined kaolin may replace the bentonite, and wax or gelatin may be used as the non-adhesion layer with glass and paper bases respectively.
