Abstract

596,705. Casting processes; ingot moulds. K. & L. STEELFOUNDERS & ENGINEERS, Ltd., JAZWINSKI, S. T., and FINCH, S. L. June 21, 1945, No. 15891. [Class 83 (i)] The invention described in Specification 595,795 is applied to bottom-pour ingots by securing to the top of the mould 1 a chamber 5 into which there is introduced, before pouring, material which is acted on by the heat to evolve a gas G which will exert a downward pressure on the liquid metal. The material and the method of enclosing and mounting it may be the same as in said prior Specification. The chamber 5 may be secured to the mould by a strap 11, tie rods 9 and clamps 10. The Figure shows the filled mould after a crust 16 of metal has solidified and charge of gasevolving material attached to the rod 15 has been consumed. A number of such moulds may be connected to a single down runner.
