Abstract
596,526. Machinery safety devices. INGHAM, G. July 28, 1945, No. 19373. [Class 80(iv)] [Also in Group II] Current from the windings of the stator or rotor of the electric motor a of an electrically driven machine such as a centrifugal machine or hydro-extractor is utilised to actuate a locking bolt for the cover or guard or other part of the machine. As shown, the current from the stator windings passes through a rectifier c to close the contacts e of a moving coil relay d which places a negative voltage on the grid f<SP>1</SP> of a thermionic valve f, the resulting anode current being used to operate a further relay g to close contacts g<SP>1</SP> to operate a magnetic latch or bolt adapted to hold the cover of the machine in position. When the current to the motor is switched off the continued rotation of the rotor of the machine due to its own momentum induces a current in the stator winding which is effective to actuate the relay d until the motor actually stops.
