Abstract

1,081,168. Electric motors. HITACHI SEISAKUSHO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Nov. 27, 1964 [Nov. 27, 1963], No. 48332/64. Heading H2A. The speed of a brushless electric motor having a rotor position sensing device operating at high frequency, is controlled by a shaft mounted centrifugal switch which cuts off the high frequency supply to the sensing device when the motor overspeeds. A high frequency oscillator 1 induces a high frequency signal in coil L 4 on the rotor through rotating transformer T 1 and this signal is applied through the centrifugal switch contact G to rotating coils L 5 , the number of such coils depending on the number of poles on the permanent magnet rotor. Detecting coils are spaced around the stator frame, with opposite coils connected in series, and the magnitude and phase of the voltages induced, from coils L 5 , in these coils will be a measure of the instantaneous rotor position. These values are added to a reference signal induced in coil L 3 and after detection are applied to a transistor switching circuit for causing current flow in the motor stator windings L 9 -L 11 in sequence. If the motor overspeeds contact G opens to cut off the high frequency supply to coils L 5 and thereby stop the supply of current to the stator windings so that the motor speed falls until contact G again closes. The opposite direction of rotation may be obtained by reversing the output of reference coil L 3 . Alternatively the switch may operate to short-circuit coil L 4 .
