Abstract

596,476. Discharge lamps. SCOPHONY, Ltd., and CHARLOTTE, H. F. July 26, 1945. No. 19219. [Class 39 (i)] A circuit as described in Specification 593,332, [Group XXXV], is used to apply short pulses of high-frequency current between one of the main electrodes of an electric discharge lamp and a triggering electrode which comprises a conductor led into the discharge space through an insulating sheath. The lamp comprises two cylindrical parts 10, 11 joined by a cylinder 12 which projects within the electrodes 13, 16 to protect them from ion bombardment. The triggering electrode comprises a wire 17 sheathed by a thin glass tube 19 to near its inner end 18. The lead 20 to the electrode 13 is led through a seal 21 inclined at an acute angle to the axis of the tube and guided by a stud 22 to one pin of a three-pin plug (not shown). The lamp with all the high voltage conductors may be mounted in an enclosure which may serve as a handle. The front tube 10 may extend through an aperture in the centre of a concave mirror to which the handle may be attached.
