Abstract
596,188. Speedometers. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd., and NEEDHAM, J. C. July 24, 1945, No. 18955. [Class 106 (iii)] In a tachometer of the eddy-current drag type comprising a permanent magnet cooperating with a conductive eddy-current member, the conductor is the driving member and the flux of the permanent magnet has only to pass through the air gap between this member and the permanent magnet. An input spindle 1, driven by the machine whose speed of rotation is to be measured, carries a copper drum 4, embodying a set of annular laminations 5 of low-hysteresis magnetic material. Within the drum 4 is located a disc magnet 7, magnetized along a diameter, and mounted for rotation, under the restraint of a spiral spring 12, on a spindle 8. The angular displacement of the magnet 7 is indicated by a pointer 19 against a scale 20.
