Abstract
1,226,149. 226, 149. Measuring rotational speed, electrically. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP. Oct. 2, 1968 [Oct. 9, 1967], No. 46796/68. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G4] In apparatus for measuring the rotational speed of a turbine shaft by measuring the frequency at which the turbine compressor blades 12, which are electrically conductive, pass a transducer 10 mounted on the housing 14, the transducer 10 comprises a permanent magnet 28 mounted on a central magnetic core 24 within a magnetic housing 18 to form a magnetic circuit having an air gap that the blades 12 pass through and a pick-up coil 32 wound on the core 24 for detecting changes in flux caused by eddy currents induced in the blades as they pass the transducer. The frequency is measured by counting the number of pulses produced between successive gate pulses, motor 60 adjusting the indicator 64 if the result of a count differs from the result of the next previous count.
