Abstract

596,050. Electrically-actuated valves. STONER, F. E. July 16, 1945, No. 18193. Convention date, Feb. 12. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXV] A light-weight solenoid valve assembly for lubricant dilution systems comprises a body 10 with oppositely disposed inlet and outlet passages 11, 12 and a, transverse bore 16, a valve seat 17 formed by the flat bottom of the bore 16 and having a central port 18 and an offset port 19 opening into the passages 12, 11 respectively, a slidable solenoid plunger 22 with an annular seal 24 which seats around the port 18, a Hanged bushing 20 mounted in the bore 16 so that its flange 21 bears against the exterior of the body 10 and a solenoid coil 26 mounted between the flange 21 and a top plate 28 so that when energized it opens the valve. When the solenoid is de-energized, the valve is closed by a spring 36 and the inlet pressure which has access to a chamber 39 above the plunger 22 by passages 37, 38 and a space formed between the plunger 22 and a counterbore 41. The flange 21 has metal-tometal contact with the upper face of the body 10 which has a recess 42 completely containing a ring seal 43 when compressed. The upper part of the plunger 22, which is of steel or like magnetic material, slides in a sleeve 25 bonded to the bushing 20 and receiving in its upper end a stud 27 projecting from the plate 28. The coil 26 is surrounded by a casing 29 which also serves to clamp in position a cap 31 carrying a fitting 33 for the attachment of an electric cable. A wire 34 is passed through the fitting into an opening 35 in the plate 28. The inlet port 19 is of arcuate shape. The passages 11, 12 are enlarged at 14, 15 for the attachment of pipes.
