Abstract

595,790. Electroplating. CARNEGIEILLINOIS STEEL CORPORATION. Oct. 13, 1944, No. 19811. Convention date, Feb. 29. [Class 41] In electro-plating strip metal S conducted by rollers C, R between soluble anodes A, the latter are coated over a band at the surface h of the electrolyte with a film of lacquer, the major ingredient of which is a thermal plastic so as to prevent erosion. The band should be extended above the electrolyte on the side of the anode facing the strip to a height at least equal to the drag - out distance. Lacquers containing cellulose acetate or polyvinyl chloride are suitable. The anodes may be re-melted and re-cast without removal of the protective coating which is partly vaporized, the remainder being skimmed from the surface of the molten bath. Specification 551,841 is referred to.
