Abstract

1412067 Galvanizing flux BASF AG 22 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 8714/73 Heading C7F and C7M A galvanizing flux comprises AlCl 3 and ZnCl 2 and may also contain up to 4% NH 4 Cl, AlCl 3 being present in the range 2-30%. The flux may form a molten layer on the Zn bath, or articles to be galvanized may be dipped in an aqueous solution of the flux, dried, and then galvanized. The aqueous solution has a chloride composition of 15-50 wt per cent. In an example, a steel belt is degreased, pickled, rinsed, passed through an aqueous solution of the flux composition, dried in an oven and passed into a Zn bath at 450‹C. Suitable aqueous flux solutions given are (I) 65 kg ZnCl 2 , 5 kg AlCl 3 in 100 1 water; (II) 72 kg ZnCl 2 , 28 kg AlCl 3 in 500 1 water; and (III) 65 kg ZnCl 2 3 kg AlCl 3 , 1.5 kg NH4 Cl in 100 l water.
