Abstract

595,283. Brakes. COMPAGNIE DES FREINS ET SIGNAUX WESTINGHOUSE. May 2, 1945, No. 11150. Convention date, Feb. 17, 1943. [Class 103 (i)] The auxiliary brake described in Specification 594,989 is modified to facilitate removal of the discs and renewal of friction linings. For heavy vehicles, more than one set of simultaneously operated braking plates may be provided. As shown, the casing 20 is open at the bottom to permit of removal, for re-lining, of the halfdiscs 7 which are secured to slidably spliced sleeves 4, 5, 6 by screws 9. The stationary hollow centre plates 15 are pressed by springs 17 against abutments 16 which are adjustable for regulation of the " off " clearance. Water is excluded from the splines on the shaft 1 by flexible sheaths 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a construction in which the rotary discs, on each side of the stationary hollow centre plate, are moved simultaneously towards one another to apply the brake. The application may be by mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic means. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
