Abstract

594,789. Motor driven trucks. STEVENS, A. H. (Salem Steel and Supply Co.). Feb. 27, 1945, No. 4902. [Classes 79 (ii), 79 (iii) and 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] A lift truck 10 (see Group XXXII) is mounted on two wheels 12 on an axle 38 fixed in a swivelling bracket 11, Fig. 3, which is connected to a tubular, power-driven, chassis 13 by a swivel pin 14. The chassis is provided with a single wheel 15, Figs. 1, 2, driven by an engine 16, the driver standing on footboards 22, 25 on each side of the wheel 15. and steers the vehicle by the truck handle 24, the swivelling bracket 11 being centralized with the frame 13 by a spring-pressed roller 42 engaging in an arcuate track 41. One footboard 22 is pivoted to the frame 13 and. is connected by a rod 21 to a rockable clutch housing 17 provided with friction wheels 18, 19, one of which is adapted to engage a wheel 20 on the engine shaft when the footboard is tilted to drive the truck forwardly and the other engages the wheel 20 on reverse tilting of the footboard to drive the truck in reverse. The friction wheels may be operated by hand lever 23 and the flexible exhaust pipe 62 is led into a tubular member of the frame 13.
