Abstract

594,306. Steam-generator &c. furnaces. ANTHRACITE INDUSTRIES, Inc. Dec. 7, 1944, No. 24528. Convention date, Sept. 8. [Class 51 (i)] Apparatus for burning solid fuel comprises an imperforate tube 10 of small diameter surrounded by a jacket 32 for heating water &c. fuel being fed by worms 23, 12 to one end of the tube so as to form an elongated column and combustion air being drawn in at the opposite open end 11 by a fan 28. The fuel is ignited at the central portion of the tube and the combustion products are drawn by the fan 28 through the entering fuel which is thus preheated and also serves to filter out fly ash from the gases. The tube is not more than eight inches in diameter, the particular diameter used being so chosen, in relation to the size of fuel, that it is no larger than eight lumps lying side by side.
