[Class 83 (iii)] A jig for holding aircraft components during repair consists of two or more pedestals, each adjustable on rails and carrying a universally-mounted work-holding frame on adjustable slides ; the rails and slides permit the frame to be correctly positioned to engage pick-up points on the component and the universal movement permits the jig to adapt itself to small distortions of the component, the movement being limited to correspond to tolerated limits of distortion. Pedestals c, which may be fitted with extensions c', are adjustably secured by bolts b<1> to pairs of rails b on chairs a laid on a cruciform site. Each pedestal carries mutually - perpendicular slides d<1>, d<2>, d<2> which are linearly adjustable by a nut on each slide engaging a screwed shaft, the adjustment being measured by graduated scales. The slide d<3> carries a frame e, with pads el for adaptors, on a gimbal mounting consisting of an outer ring n with vertical trunnions in and an inner ring l with horizontal trunnions o. Freedom of movement about the trunnions is limited by abutment of the frame with the slide d3 or with adjustable stops thereon and rotation about a horizontal axis is limited by bolts l<1> in the ring engaging slots in the slide d<3>.
