[Class 21] A laminated wood barrel stave is characterised in that the grain of the outermost and innermost layers extends longitudinally of the stave and parallel to the longitudinal medial line thereof, and the grain of intermediate layers or of groups of intermediate layers extends obliquely, preferably at an angle between 10 degrees and 80 degrees, to the longitudinal medial line of the stave so that the grains of adjoining individual layers of or adjoining groups thereof cross diagonally. A layer having longitudinallyextending grain may be interposed between two obliquely-grained layers. Some of the intermediate layers may consist of fibrous or cellular material other than wood, e.g., coarse fabric, glass wool.
