Abstract
593,943. Brush - holders for dynamoelectric machines. ROTAX, Ltd., and GILBERT, W. F. June 20, 1945, No. 15760. [Class 35] A brush-holder with the brush in a metal tube projecting from a plunger mounted in a socket has the plunger held in the socket against spring pressure by the engagement of a ball or balls in a recess in the inner surface of the socket in a slot in the plunger, the arrangement being equivalent to a bayonet joint and enabling the plunger to be easily withdrawn to permit inspection or replacement of the brush. In the form shown, the two axial grooves n in the plunger c have extensions extending approximately circumferentially to provide pockets for the balls r which also project into arcuate grooves q in socket a and finger pressure on cap d integral with the plunger c towards the slip-ring or commutator h is necessary to release the balls from said pockets, whereupon spring s urges the plunger outwards, the balls being retained by ring t normally pressed against the plunger. Socket a may be integral with the machine frame b.
