Abstract

852,033. Lipstick holders. WAHLE, A. Feb. 10, 1958 [May 7, 1957], No. 4248/58. Class 18. A lipstick casing comprises two sleeves 25, 30 which are coupled to a refill 10 so that relative rotation of the sleeves 25, 30 causes the lipstick 20 to be projected or retracted and relative longitudinal movement of the sleeves 25, 30 causes the refill 10 to be moved outwardly from the casing so that it may be replaced. The sleeves 25, 30 are telescopically arranged as shown in Fig. 1. A coil spring 35 urges a collar 28 formed on the sleeve 25 away from a collar 32 formed on the sleeve 30. The lipstick is projected by a pin 21 which rides in a slot 22 and slides in a helical groove 37 on the sleeve 25 so that the liptstick cup is propelled outwards. To remove the refill 10 the sleeve 25 is slid towards the base so that the collar 28 and the sleeve 25 are pressed against the action of the spring 35 to project the refill by the action of the lower edge 25a of the sleeve 25 against an edge 12a of the refill which may then be withdrawn by gripping parts 12, 13, 14. In an alternative embodiment, not shown, the helical groove is provided in an outer sleeve surrounding the refill. In a modification, Fig. 7, the inner sleeve 40 has a shoulder 70 seating a spring 71 which tends to displace the sleeve 40 downwards with respect to the outer sleeve 41 i.e. in the opposite direction to the spring 35 in Fig. 1. The force of the spring 71 is not sufficient to displace the sleeve 40 downwardly since it abuts against a shoulder 43a of the refill which is frictionally engaged by a rim 74 on the sleeve 41.
