Abstract
593,045. Kinematograph apparatus. DUFOUR, A. P. April 11, 1945, No. 9063. Convention date, June 20, 1942. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii)] An attachment for a kinematograph camera for photographing a real or full scale background and real moving objects in combination with an artificial foreground comprises a box having a rear aperture to be arranged on the optical axis of the camera and, at the front, an objective lens in line with said aperture, means for holding a small-sized cut out pictorial mask representing the foreground at right angles to the common axis of said objective and aperture substantially in the focal plane of said objective, whereby the latter forms an image of the real background and moving objects in the plane of the mask, means for concentrating the beam of light issuing from said objective lens into said rear aperture and means for illuminating one face of said mask. As shown, the objective 1 forms a real image of the external scene in the plane of the picture 2 of the foreground object which is illuminated either by lamps within the casing 5 or by external light entering through apertures 4. A field lens may be provided behind the picture 2, at 6, or in front at 6a, or both, to concentrate light from the objective 1 on to the camera objective A.
