593,039. Exciting dynamo electric 'machines. MACFARLANE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., MACFARLANE. J. W., and MACFARLANE, W. I. March 1, 1945, No. 5090. Addition to 566,168. [Class 35] A modification of the generator described in the parent Specification having main and control poles, a short-span wound armature, short-circuited control-pole commutator brushes and main compensating windings in which a field winding is placed on the main poles. As shown, the additional winding 11 is on the main pole axis MM and is fed from the control pole brushes y<1>, y<2>. The control poles have a load compensating winding 6 and a pair of oppositely acting windings 8, 9 fed by the control circuit 7, a non-linear resistor 10 composed of silicon carbide ceramic being in parallet with the " abutment " winding 8. In a modified circuit, the additional main pole winding may be connected in series with a control pole winding, which may be separate or part of the other windings so that any charge of main flux due to load variations is fed to the control winding so as to damp out the oscillations. An adjustable regulating resistance may also be included in this circuit.
