Abstract
A composition of a mineral oil having a boiling range below 750 DEG F., a metal corrosion inhibitor which does not contribute more than 10 per cent by weight of materials boiling above 750 DEG F., and a high molecular weight olefinic polymer completely volatile at 750 DEG F. and in an amount sufficient to give the total composition a viscosity of 350 to 1000 seconds Saybolt at 210 DEG F., is coated on to metal frictional surfaces. Polymers specified are polyisobutylene, polyisopentene and acryloid resins. Inhibitors specified are degras and alkali metal salts of petroleum sulphonic acids together, low temperature oxidized paraffin wax or petroleum alone or admixed with either degras or the above sulphonates.
