Abstract

A corrosion-inhibiting composition comprises a wax-based corrosion preventative having incorporated therein minor proportions of a pour-point depressor of the type conventionally used with lubricating oils, preferably a Friedel-Crafts condensation product of a chlorinated paraffin wax and naphthalene, and a polyisoolefin, preferably polyisobutylene, of molecular weight between 20,000 and 200,000. The wax component of the composition is preferably a microcrystalline wax melting in the range 135-210 DEG F. and the composition may also comprise a volatile solvent, preferably a hydrocarbon solvent, in which the wax is sparingly soluble at room temperature and readily soluble when hot, which boils in the range 40-190 DEG C., a lubricating oil and minor quantities of corrosion inhibitors, such as alkali metal and alkaline earth metal oil-soluble petroleum sulphonates, lanoline and wool-grease.
