Abstract
592,710. Elastic fluid turbines. HUGHES, T. O. (Long, T. S.). Jan. 5, 1945, No. 568. [Class 110 (iii)] A rotor with vanes B has a gas-tight running fit at its sides and periphery within a watercooled casing C. A combustible gas mixture, with water vapour, is admitted centrally through a valve F, compressed centrifugally, ignited by means of a plug G and the products of combustion are discharged through a valve H. The valves F and H are operated by a cam shaft so that, for example, the inlet valve is open for ten revolutions of the rotor and the exhaust valve, for the following ten revolutions.
