Abstract

A composite mica product of high temperature resistance is prepared by building up mica flakes into a plate using a high temperature resisting inorganic binder for adhering the successive layers, heating the plate thus formed individually to a sufficiently high temperature to melt the binder, subjecting the plate to a pressure of 250-500 lbs. per square inch, and allowing the plate to cool under substantially the same pressure in such a way as to ensure substantial uniform dissipation of the heat and so prevent unequal contraction. The plate is built up as described in Specification 539,704, and after drying is placed between sheet metal cover plates before insertion in the oven, these plates serving to equalise the pressure during consolidation and to assist in the even dissipation of heat during cooling. Specification 532,824 also is referred to.
