859,871. Producing ozone. FORDERUNG DER FORSCHUNG AN DER EIDGENOSSISCHEN TECHNISCHEN HOCKSCHULE, GESELLSCHAFT ZUR. July 23, 1959 [July 24, 1958], No. 25383/59. Class 39(1). An ozonizer has plate-shaped elements 15, Figs 3 and 4, each consisting of an electrode 18 embedded between dielectric plates 16, 17 which project beyond the electrode, the spaces between the dielectric plates and between the plates and the electrode being completely filled with an adhesive binder 19, such as polyvinyl acetate, to exclude air. The dieelectric plates may consist of glass, mica or ceramic, and the electrode may consist of metal foil, e.g. of aluminium, or metallic netting or fabric. In manufacture foils of polyvinyl acetate which include softeners, such as tricresyl phosphate are placed between the electrode and the dielectric plates. Air is then evacuated from between the plates and the foils softened by heating. The assembly is then allowed to cool. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6, the electrode 118 is formed as a metallic or non-metallic conducting layer on one of the dielectric plates 17, e.g. by spraying, or by deposition by vaporization or from a solution, and a single foil 119 of polyvinyl acetate is interposed between the electrode and the other dielectric plate 16. Air is then removed from between the plates and the assembly heated and cooled as before.
