Abstract

890,940. Moulding-press platens. BEANWY ELECTRIC Ltd. April 11, 1958 [Jan. 11, 1957], No. 1082/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XI] A moulding press platen comprises a magnetisable metal slab 18, Fig. 4, or an assembly of such slabs 22, 23, Fig. 5, with one or more induction heating coils housed in recesses 2 in one slab face ane one or more cooling duets 3 formed in another slab face. Fig. 1 shows a duct in sinuous form, the cooling fluid entering at 7 and leaving at 8. The coils may be interconnected through channels 4 to a terminal box 5. Pockets 6, 6a may be provided for a thermocouple and a thermostat. Alternatively there may be two parallel header ducts 13, 14, Fig. 3, connected by transfer ducts 15, or one header with transfer ducts opening from it. Fig. 4 is a section through Fig. 3 and shows a sheet 19, of the same metal as the slab 18, closing the recesses 2 and a sheet 20, e.g. of asbestos cement, closing the ducts 20. For liquid coolant a gasket 21 is interposed, or a layer of compound. The slabs are bolted or welded together and, with metal and insulating sheets, may be arranged in a variety of different ways.
