592,528. Regulating fuel. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. June 16, 1943, No. 9711. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1941. [Class 7 (vi)] A variable delivery fuel pump 62 is controlled by a diaphragm 76 the opposite sides of which are exposed to the pressures obtaining in chambers 28, 30 on opposite sides of a partition 32 in a casing 26. Air is drawn from a chamber 18 in the intake into the chamber 28 and flows through a restricted orifice 48 in the partition 32 to the chamber 30 whence it is drawn by a constant delivery pump 42 back to the chamber 18, the pressure differential on opposite sides of the orifice 48 actuating the diaphragm 76 and a cam 86 in the connection between the diaphragm and. the pump being shaped to increase the richness of the combustible mixture when the pressure differential exceeds a predetermined value. As shown, the orifice 48 is controlled by a valve 50, actuated by a centrifugal governor 52, which reduces the orifice as the speed increases to make the diaphragm movements correspond to the density of the air in the intake. A manually controlled bleed 90 between the chambers 30, 28 is provided. In a modification, a second orifice in the partition 32 is controlled by a syphon bellows in the chamber 28, the interior of the bellows communicating with the chamber 30.
