[Classes 54 and 69 (i)] In a gas holder or tank of the type comprising a vertically-movable piston member connected to a rigid wall member by a flexible gas-tight element, so as to constitute an extensible side wall portion of the gas space, the gas space X is formed by the gas-tight, stationary side wall A, roof B and bottom constituted by a vertically-movable piston whose peripheral edge is connected to A by a flexible gas-tight element D, the side wall A being supported by the structure E, sufficiently elevated to allow full movement of the piston. The roof is supported mainly by the tubular member F, containing the counterweight 3, connected to the piston structure by cables 1 and the diameter is made gas-tight where the member F passes through the piston by a flexible element D<1> ; the upper end of the supporting member is sealed by the cap 9 and its lower end provided with the gassealed drain device 10. The flexible element D is attached to the side wall so that it is spaced off from the structure E to avoid freezing, either by inwardly offsetting the side wall A (as at A<1>), or by the provision of an angle iron, to the inner surface of which the element is clamped. Condensate collected on the wall A of the gas space is removed by liquid-sealed U tubes 14, which collect it from troughs formed by the diaphragm clamping bars, and the condensate on the roof is preventing from dripping into the diaphragm folds by a vane 17, which directs it on to the upper face of the piston C. The piston cables are balanced with, the counter-weighing mechanism to keep the working pressure constant at about 1/38 in. of water in all positions of the piston.
