590,984. Screw-operated telescopic devices. SMITH'S JACKING SYSTEMS, Ltd., and BARRATT, A. E. April 30, 1945, No. 10922. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXX] In a screw-operated telescopic device, e.g., jack of the kind comprising at least two tubes 10, 11 adapted for relative movement by rotation of a screw 17 in a nut 20 which has, e.g., a press fit in inner tube 10, a loose wedging member, e.g., ball 23, is located in groove 22 cut out of inner tube and screw so that, upon rotation of screw 17 by twisting extension 16 in order to extend the inner tube and to lower foot 13 attached thereto, the tendency for the inner tube to rotate within the outer tube is prevented. A ball race 18 is provided for smooth running and a spigot 12 for attachment to a car. Fig. 4 shows an alternative shape of groove.
