Abstract

590,738. Photographic and kinematograph film reels. KODAK, Ltd. Feb. 19, 1945, No. 4142. Convention date, March 10, 1944. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (i)] In a spool comprising a sheet metal hub with end flanges, the hub has a transverse filmentraining slot adjacent which are arranged lugs projecting inwardly of the hub and away from the slot for engaging perforations in the film. As shown, the hub 12 carries on each side of the slot 15 a pair of lugs 25, 26 pressed inwardly from the hub, the members of each pair being spaced apart on the hub by a distance equal to the transverse separation of the film-feed perforations. The leading end 16 of the film is passed through the slot 15 and the spool rotated anti-clockwise, causing the film to tighten round the hub, whereupon the end of the film pivots about the slot edge 14 until a pair of film perforations slips over and engages the lugs 25, so locking the film end to the hub. At the end of the rewinding operation, the end 34 of the film is drawn into the position indicated by the dotted lines and so pivots on the slot edge 13, causing the perforations to become disengaged from the lugs 25. The provision of two pairs of lugs enables the film to be wound on in either direction.
