Abstract
590,730. Automatic guns. THORNTON, A. A. (Magnavox Co.). July 3, 1944, No. 12663. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to a solenoid firing device for machine guns in which the moving core 56 carries a pin 64 with inclined face 76 for engaging the gun sear 20 as the breech block 12 closes. According to the invention, the pin 64 with its incline 76 is adjustable axially to vary the position at which firing occurs as the breech block closes. The invention is shown applied to a Browning machine gun. The solenoid casing 48 is carried by a plate 32 removably mounted by inclined face 36 and bolt 40 in recesses at the side of the gun casing 2. The inclined face 76 of the pin 64 engages the horizontal sliding sear 20 on the rear of the breech block 12. The pin 64 ,is screwed at 66 to the moving core 56 of the solenoid and passes through the fixed core 54 being controlled by a spring 65. A plate 94 engages by pins 92 with the core 56 and a clicking finger piece 96 is used to rotate the core 56 to adjust the position of the pin 64 through the agency of the screw 66.
