Abstract

590,675. Electric resistance furnaces. G.W.B. ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd., and TURNER, G. March 29, 1945, No. 7918. [Class 39 (iii)] An electricfurnace comprises heating elements 31 arranged on horizontal bars 26 mounted on a refractory supporting framework having sides formed of inter-engaging cylindrical blocks 19 having a recess 20 at one end and a projection 21 at the other so that when superposed the projection of one engages in the recess of the other to interlock and be retained in the required relationship, and forming a structure which can be withdrawn through an opening in the furnace roof by using lifting rods 32. The two lifting rods having T-shaped ends 33 are inserted in the central bore formed by the aligned central rectangular holes 23 in the blocks, so that on rotating the rods the T- shaped heads engage in recesses 25 in the bottom cross member 16.
