Abstract
589,698. Conditioning flour. PALMER, A. R., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. June 9, 1944. No. 11095. [Class 58] Flour is subjected to a succession of sieving operations before passing it to the kneader, in order to break up and levigate the flour mass into its constituent fine particles, the particles falling freely through an air space from each sieving stage to the next, and means being provided for promoting air currents through the falling flour. The sieving may be carried out in a box a fitted near its upper end with a grid a<SP>2</SP> or with a coned element a<SP>1</SP>, to receive the dumped flour and break its fall. Within the box are two screens b, c, mounted on leaf springs b<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>1</SP> and having arms d which are coupled to sheaves e of eccentrics f. These eccentrics, which are relatively displaced by 180 degrees, are mounted on a shaft g driven by a motor h. The screens may be fitted beneath with peripheral inwardly directed flanges for directing the flour inwardly, and the lowermost screen may be fitted beneath with a baffle behind which air jets are located to provide currents or streams of air through the shower of flour. Similar baffles and jets may alternatively or in addition be provided between one or more pairs of screens.
