Abstract

589,237. Turf aeraters. HARGREAVES, W., and HARGREAVES & CO., Ltd., W. June 29, 1944, No. 12369. [Class 6 (ii)] An appliance for aerating and piercing turf consists of two L-shaped steel tubular members a, b welded at their abutting ends c to form a U-shaped member. A cross-piece d may be welded across a short distance inward along the free arms. The free ends form spigots for the attachment of tines. Spigots may also be welded to the cross-piece d. Each spigot is bevelled at the end e and formed with a shoulder against which the hollow tines press. A pin k fixes the tines to the spigots. The tines are open-sided and bevel-ended ; the bevel e assists in the expulsion of the soil plug. A tine of solid cross-section either circular or of blade form may be used. In these cases spigots on the tines enter sockets in the frame-ends. Rubber hand-grips m and a foot pressure plate n are provided.
