1295559 Making hand tools K PERCIVALBARKER 16 July 1971 33474/71 Addition to 1291604 Heading B3A A metallic implement having a blade with an integrally attached handle part is made by attaching a pair of plates 9 or 11 to each side of a tapered end of a tube 1 or 10, and then forming the plates into a blade. In one embodiment, Fig. 5, the plates 9 are welded to a tang 2 and in a second embodiment, Fig. 6, the plates 11 are welded to the tapered portion of the tube, the tapered portion being blocked by a plug 7. The plates and handle may be made from the same material, or from different material, e.g. Al handle and stainless steel blade.
