Abstract
588,921. Valves for gas-heated apparatus. MERKER AKT.- GES., (formerly MERKER & CO., AKT.- GES.). April 14, 1944, No. 6910. Convention date, April 20, 1943. [Class 64 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A gas-heated apparatus 4 provided with a damper 6 in the flue 5 has a safety device to ensure that the gas cannot come on until the flue is fully opened. This device controls the automatic safety cut-off valve 3 in the main gas pipe 1 which comprises a valve member 19, Fig. 2, normally held open by the outlet gas pressure acting on a diaphragm 23 in a chamber 15 through a passage 21 with a restriction 14 so that the valve closes on failure of pressure. The valve must be re-opened by manual operation of a push-button valve 22, Fig. 3, to allow pressure from the inlet to act through passages 13 and 26 on to the diaphragm. A pipe 10 is taken from the diaphragm chamber to a valve cock which is actuated by the spindle of the damper 6 to vent this chamber to atmosphere through passages 17, 16 when the flue damper 6 is closed so that the valve 19 cannot open under these conditions. When the damper 6 is fully opened, by a lever 8 acting through a link 7, the vent 17, 16 is closed so that pressure is allowed to build up underneath diaphragm 23 and open the valve 19. A pressure regulator and a bimetallic safety-device may be combined with the cut-off valve 3.
